So I've been a bit MIA lately. I have no excuses. Shame, shame.
Basically, most of my time online anymore is spent on my writing, and frankly, I haven't come across much in the news that's fired me up politically. I'll say this much, it is much easier to stay up to date on the news around the world when you have cable, which right now, I don't. (That's right - I'm going to miss the 24 finale tomorrow night. GRRR.) Yes, the internet is a far more exhaustive and helpful tool with regard to the news and politics than television, but it's not what I'm used to. I've missed all of the debates - I'm sorry, YouTube with its maddening skippage is painful, and I'd rather read blurbs than torture myself there - and I hardly feel as if I'm qualified to comment anymore unless it's some mildly abstract principled issue rather than a hot-button, up to the minute issue. It may also be that I'm mildly burned out.
But I'll be back in my groove soon enough. Frankly, I'd rather let this blog waste away for a little while than just answer Qotd's and bore everyone with inane details about my life (or the lack thereof).
One word on the 24 finale: if the spoilers I've read are true, oh my God, I am going to cry both tears of fangirl joy and tears of utter devastation for not being able to watch it myself. I mean, we are talking the greatest ending to a season ever. You may never hear from me on this blog ever again because I'll be too busy furiously writing my dream version of Day 7 to notice anything else happening in the world. It's that good.
See? This is why I should step away for awhile. I'm already boring everyone.
EDIT: I should also mention that I am absolutely keeping up with my neighborhood. I love each & every one of you and you all brighten my day. I'll probably end up leaving more comments than writing actual posts for a little while. But you all are awesome, and I shall keep up with you, burned out or not. :)
I really do. Is it the computer's fault that it got hit with some worm Sunday and shut down, leaving me panicked and HIGHLY unhappy for 5 too many days? No, but I still hate it. It just isn't enough that I work off of a crap, lightless monitor - nooo, hows about we add freshly data-free and back to square one? I've only had this thing since December - is that relatively soon for all of this crap that keeps happpening? I don't know because I can't compare it to past experience, since this is my first computer. There's my Qotd - what's your general timeframe for a computer going belly up?
OK, OK, so it didn't exactly "go belly up" - at least I was able to reinstall Windows and get this thing working again. And, my mood was instantly lightened - nay, transformed into utter ecstaticness (is that a word?) - by the discovery that a story I wrote for a 24 fanfiction challenge...OMG....WON.
*jumps up & down*
Oh my God I won something! And for something I wrote!! *squeals*
What did I win, exactly? Well, not much, besides the praise of fellow Jack/Chloe fanfiction writers, but each winner got a banner made to look like their story. This is mine:
It has my name on it and everything! Whee!
(For those of you who haven't figured as much, fanfiction is the act of ripping off whatever you're a fan of and doing it your own way. For me, it's taking the show 24 and writing stories pairing Jack Bauer with Chloe or with...um...well, another character. If you really want to know, I'll tell you, but you probably don't. Especially if you don't watch the show, in which case you care nothing of what I'm currently babbling about.)
Anyway, one look at that banner and the accompanying title of "Best Plot", and suddenly, I heart my computer.
I'm way behind on the news and my neighboorhood, but I shall remedy that soon. "Soon" being tomorrow, since it's about 8 AM and I need to go to sleep.
Happy day to all. :)
....was last night not utterly awesome???!!!
All one must do is just watch episode 7 of season 6 to know why I love 24. It's going on my list of classic episodes, for excellence on all fronts - the Bauer famliy plot, Morris, President Palmer...my only complaint is for a continuing lack of Chloe awesomeness, for which my patience is being truly tried.
And when Graem confessed his role behind the evil in season 5...well, let's just say it was one of Kiefer's best scenes from anywhere. So well acted.
And next week is a double episode...I don't know if I can hold out for a week...
I realize we're at war, much of the world is being gripped by chaos, and there is no shortage of political stuff for me to rant about, but for the time being, I'm going to forget about all of that and indulge what's really on my mind:
OMG. "24" PREMIERES TOMORROW NIGHT!!!!!!!!
AGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
I have been waiting for this for so long. I fell in love with the show - and its yummy star - last year, when my nervous Mom started watching the 5th season. I say "nervous" because that's what she was when she would watch it. Mouth agape, edge of her seat, all of that. Me on the other hand, I find the show quite relaxing. I don't know why, but I do.
It really is a great combo of the realistic and completely unrealistic. In real life, of course one man alone couldn't have averted all that Jack Bauer has. But "24" has a good grip on politics and post-9/11 America, if nothing else. I can say that as someone who is very anti-torture. At first glance, it might look like the show is a propaganda machine in favor of torture, but that's only at first glance. Torture is often followed by serious consequences on the show, like in season 1 when Jack pushed his only lead on his kidnapped family too hard and accidentally killed him, taking him back to square one.
"24" is obviously just a tv show, but I think it adds to America's political landscape in a positive and non-partisan way. And besides that, it's just a darn good show that I recommend to all.
I've even taken my fandom to the next level and started posting stories on fanfiction.net, which I realize might be considered slightly weird, but it's so fun. I get to play writer and think up scenarios that would probably never happen for real on the show.
Anyway, now that this is out of my system, I can return to more relevant things to write about. Like Kiefer Sutherland's insane hotness.
